Prezentare Demers Artistic
Since the 1960’s, my work has involved human feelings, body and identity. I deconstruct the human body, folklore and evolution of life from birth till death, examining everything that creates our human, and more specifically our Romanian, identity. My work also addresses gender roles and assignment and the fragility of family dynamics. The sculptures I create often depict the beauty of human body but also capture the fragility and beauty of the soul.
My preferred material is wood because of its intrinsic nature. Sculptures in wood, like many of my feminine and male nudes, communicate warmth but at the same time provide a sense of how precarious our lives are. For my monumental works and portraits I used stone or marble because of the structure and intrinsic monumentality of materials.
Portraits are a big part of my work and are very personal pieces that have been inspired by and made for particular people in my life. Through these portraits I tried to look beyond the superficial and tried to depict the perennial soul. Like this particular people are part of my life, my work is a part of me, too. Art makes my life complete.
