La prima vedere, principala calitate a sculptorului pare să fie puterea sa magică de a transforma în stană de piatră cunoașterea obiectului, plecând de la subiect, cunoașterea vizibilului, prin studierea invizibilului.
Specificul sculpturii este volumul, indiferent dacă este ronde-bosse sau se detașează de pe fundal. Dată fiind posibilitatea artistului de a crea nu numai reflexul bidimensional, ca în oglindă, ci chiar formele concrete ale obiectelor, sculptura a fost deseori proclamată „mai realistă” decât pictura și în acest sens, cu fiecare generație, au revenit întrebările: „în ce măsură e necesară redarea fidelă a lumii vizibile și care este raportul dintre realitate și opera de artă?”
Stilizarea în artele plastice este mijlocul de a scoate în relief anumite trăsături ale imaginii, estompând altele, în favoarea unui mod unitar de care depind toate detaliile și astfel, dirijând atenția privitorului asupra mesajului pe care dorim sa-l transmitem.
În acest sens, înțelegem mai bine cuvintele lui Constantin Brâncuși: „simplitatea nu este un scop în artă, dar se ajunge la simplitate chiar fără voie, pe măsură ce ne apropiem de sensul real al lucrurilor”.

At a glance, the main quality of a sculptor seems to be his magical power to assign to turn the knowledge of an object into stone, based on subject and the knowledge of visible, by studying the invisible.
The specificity of sculpture is the volume, whether it is a ronde-bosse, or it is removed from the background. Given the opportunity of the artist to create not only two-dimensional reflections, as in a mirror, but even concrete form of the objects, the sculpture has often been proclaimed „more realistic” than painting, and in this respect, with each generation, questions returned: „to what extent is it necessary to accurately represent the visible world and which is the relation between reality and the work of art?”
Styling in fine arts is a mean to emphasize certain features of the image, blurring others, in favor of a unitary manner on which depend all the details and thus, directing the viewer’s attention on the message we want to convey.
In this regard, we understand better the words of Constantin Brancusi: „simplicity is not the goal in art, but it comes to simplicity even unwillingly, as we approach the real meaning of things.”
