Opening at ETAJ Artist-Run Space in Bucharest, Transhumance launches a cross-border exhibition series that will continue in Stockholm at Rumänska Kulturinstitutet and Studio 44. This exhibition explores cultural migration and adaptation themes, using the ancient tradition of transhumance — the seasonal movement of livestock between pastures — as a metaphor for artistic and cultural exchange.

More than an agricultural practice, transhumance symbolizes a way of life deeply connected to the rhythms of nature, adaptation, and blending of environments. The exhibition reflects these movements through the lens of contemporary art, showing how artists today navigate and integrate diverse cultural influences into their work.

Each venue offers a distinctive interpretation, with a color-coded and thematic focus that spans ethnology, folklore, and personal mythologies. These themes invite viewers to draw parallels between the nomadic traditions of transhumance and the journeys of cultural integration artists undertake. Much like the shepherds and Sami communities who traverse landscapes, the exhibition illustrates how contemporary artists blend tradition with new influences, creating a harmonious fusion of identity and environment.
