WEST MEETS EAST- A CULTURAL BOOK EXCHANGE/VESTUL ȊNTÂLNEŞTE ESTUL-SCHIMB CULTURAL DE CĂRŢI

The Eleventh Edition, 2023/Ediţia a XI-a, 2023

Proiectul internaţional ”WEST MEETS EAST”- A Cultural Book Exchange, are la bază ideea colaborării între artişti care aparţin unor sisteme socio-culturale diferite, unor continente diferite. Este vorba nu numai despre un schimb de experienţă profesională, dar şi despre un mod de comunicare complex care a pus în timp, bazele unor prietenii puternice.

Cărţile-obiect realizate în cadrul proiectului, au traversat oceanul până la Warwick (S.U.A.), călătorind apoi în spaţii expoziţionale de referinţă din Bucureşti (UNAgaleria, Sala de Expoziţii ,,Constantin Brâncuși” – Palatul Parlamentului, Gallery, Piaţa Spaniei Gallery), Iaşi (Galeria ,,N. Tonitza”), Constanţa (Muzeul de Artă), Alexandria (Biblioteca Judeţeanӑ ,,Marin Preda”) şi Focşani (Galeriile de artă). 

Născut din nevoia de colaborare artistică internaţională, “WEST MEETS EAST” – A Cultural Book Exchange a inspirat artişti, cadre didactice şi studenţi ai diferitelor universităţi de artă din ţară şi din străinătate. 

Participanţii de până acum sunt: artişti liber profesionişti din România, Statele Unite ale Americii, Ţările de Jos, India, Republica Slovacă, Polonia, Italia, Franţa; cadre didactice, absolvenţi şi studenţi ai Universităţii Naţionale de Arte Bucureşti, Universităţii de Arte „G. Enescu” Iaşi, Facultăţii de Arte Galaţi, Universităţii de Vest din Timişoara (România), Worcester State College, Quinsigamond Community College, The Massachusetts College of Art & Design (S.U.A.). 

Aceasta este cea de-a XI-a ediţie a proiectului, iniţiat în anul 2009 de Joanne R. Luongo (artist vizual din Statele Unite ale Americii) şi Daniela Frumușeanu (artist vizual din România).

Pentru aceastӑ ediţie se va realiza un catalog online.

Participanţii pot fi artiști din orice ţară.

Pentru a asigura un standard ridicat al evenimentului va exista un juriu internaţional care va face selecţia lucrărilor; juriul va fi format din Joanne Luongo (SUA) Și Valeria Bertesina (Italia). Rezultatul selecţiei va fi anunţat ȋn prima sӑptӑmânӑ a lunii aprilie 2023.

Expoziţia va avea loc ȋn perioada 15 mai-15 iunie 2023 la Galeria Orizont, București, România.

Eveniment desfӑșurat sub patronajul Uniunii Artiștilor Plastici din România.

REGULAMENT DE PARTICIPARE:

● tema la alegerea artistului;

● se admite o lucrare (carte-obiect) cu dimensiunea paginii de maxim 20 cm

x 20 cm și grosime de maxim 20 cm; greutate maximӑ 2 kg;

● nu existӑ restricţii referitoare la data realizӑrii lucrӑrii;

● se va trimite pe adresa frumuseanu@gmail.com, pănă la data de 30 martie

2023, imaginea lucrării format jpg, rezoluţie 300 dpi, dimensiune imaginii

digitale maxim A4, cu menţiunea ”WEST MEETS EAST”- A Cultural

Book Exchange 2023;

● fișa de înscriere va cuprinde numele/prenumele autorului, titlul lucrării,

tehnică, dimensiuni, anul realizării, adresa de domiciliu, adresa de e-

mail, numӑrul de telefon. Acestea, împreună cu imaginea lucrării vor fi

trimise la aceeași adresă de e-mail (frumuseanu@gmail.com), pănă la data de

30 martie 2023;

● lucrările admise vor fi trimise prin curier sau predate personal, la adresa

care va fi anunţatӑ ȋn urma selecţiei. Costurile transportului tur/retur vor fi

suportate ȋn totalitate de artiști;

● pe colet se va menţiona – FĂRĂ VALOARE COMERCIALĂ.

● taxa de participare pentru artiștii selectaţi din România va fi de 150 LEI;

● artiștii selectaţi sunt rugaţi sӑ punӑ ȋn colet alӑturi de lucrare, atât adresa de

domiciliu printatӑ necesarӑ pentru expedierea coletului, cât și taxa de

participare;

● datele din fișa de înscriere vor fi utilizate în scopul promovării expoziţiei;

organizatorii nu își asumă răspunderea pentru aceste date;

● organizatorii au dreptul de a folosi imagini reprezentând lucrările

expuse în scopul promovării expoziţiei, fără plată către autor;

● deciziile comisiei de selecţie sunt definitive;

● organizatorii nu își asumă răspunderea pentru deteriorarea lucrărilor

în timpul transportului;

● pe durata expoziţiei artiștii nu își pot retrage lucrările;

WEST MEETS EAST – A CULTURAL BOOK EXCHANGE

The Eleventh Edition, 2023

The international project ”WEST MEETS EAST” – A Cultural Book Exchange is based upon co-operation between artists from different socio-cultural backgrounds and different continents. It is not only a professional exchange, but also a complex way of communication that lays in time, the foundation of a strong friendships.

The book-objects created for the project, have crossed the ocean to Warwick-U.S.A., traveling throughout important galleries from Bucharest-Romania (UNAgaleria, Exhibition Hall “Constantin Brâncuși” – The Palace of the Parliament, Gallery, Piaţa Spaniei Gallery), Iași-Romania (The Gallery ,,Nicolae Tonitza”), Constanţa-Romania (Museum of Art), Alexandria-Romania (County Library ,,Marin Preda”) and Focșani-Romania (Art Gallery).

The projectWEST MEETS EAST – A Cultural Book Exchange arose from the need of international artistic collaboration and has inspired artists, professors and students of various universities from Romania and abroud.

So far, the participants have been: freelance artists from Romania, U.S.A., Netherlands, India, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, France; professors, graduates and students of the National University of Arts Bucharest, the University of Arts “George Enescu” Iași, the Faculty of Arts Galaţi, the West University of Timișoara (Romania), Worcester State College, Quinsigamond Community College, The Massachusetts College of Art & Design (U.S.A.). 

This is the eleventh edition of the project, initiated in to 2009 by the American visual artist Joanne R. Luongo and the Romanian visual artist Daniela Frumușeanu.

An online catalog will be created for this edition.

Participants can be artists from any country.

Artists and students from any country can participate in this project.

To ensure a high standard of this event there will be an international jury which will select the works; the jury will consist of Joanne Luongo (USA) and Valeria Bertesina (Italy).. The selection results will be annonced in the first week of April 2023. The exhibition will take place between May 15 and June 15, 2023 at Orizont Gallery, Bucharest, Romania.

Event held under the patronage of the Union of Visual Artists from Romania.

REGULATION OF PARTICIPATION:

● the theme of the artist’s choice;

● a work (book-object) with a maximum page size of 20 cm x 20 cm and a maximum thickness of 20 cm is admitted;

maximum weight 2 kg;

● there are no restrictions regarding the date the realization of the work;

● it will be sent to the address frumuseanu@gmail.com, until March 30, 2023, the image of the work in jpg format, resolution 300 dpi, maximum digital image size A4, with the mention „WEST MEETS EAST” – A Cultural Book Exchange 2023;

● the application form will have to include the author’s name, the title of the work, the technique, the sizes, the year of execution, the home adress, e-mail address, the phone number. These, together with the image of the work will be sent to the same e-mail address (frumuseanu@gmail.com), until the date March 30, 2023;

● the works will have to be sent by courier at the address which will be announced following the selection.

Transportation costs tour/return will be supported entirely by artists.

● on the package will be mentioned:NO COMMERCIAL VALUE;

● the participation fee will be 40 Euro, only if the artists want the works to be returned; the money has to be sent only after the result of the selection.

● the selected artists are asked to put in the parcel together with the work, both the printed home address necessary for sending the parcel, and the participation fee;

● the information provided by the application form will be used to promote the exhibition; the organizers don’t assume the responsability for this information;

● the organizers’ right to use the images of the exhibited works in order to promote the exhibition is free

of charge;

● the decisions of the selection committee will not be questionable;

● the organizers don’t assume the responsability for any damage ocurred to the works during transportation;

● the artists can’t withdraw their works during the exhibition period;
