BUCHAREST BIENNALE 11 OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS

BUCHAREST BIENNALE 11 OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
Nistor Laurențiu

Greetings everyone!

We are thrilled to announce the OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS for the Bucharest Biennale 11. BB is a distinguished International Contemporary Art Biennial with a legacy of 20 years. Its 11th edition is scheduled between September 19 and October 6, 2024. Bucharest Biennale has long been lauded for its dedication to pushing artistic boundaries and presenting diverse perspectives. BB11 endeavors to nurture cross-cultural dialogue, amplify artistic innovation, and elevate the biennial experience, supporting marginalized communities of artists, including the queer community.

CONCEPT OF BB11

Under the banner of „Democracy’s Uncharted Territories,” BB11 departs from conventional curatorial practices by implementing a distinctive, raw democratic selection process. Inspired by the complexities of Romanian democracy, the project delves into the tensions between public participation and the constraints of representative systems. The curatorial approach revolves around participatory democracy, advocating for citizen involvement in decision-making processes. However, it acknowledges the limitations of direct democracy and scrutinizes its application by Romanian cultural actors. In BB11, the entire team will function as the selection committee and curatorial collective, rejecting the traditional designation of a curator.

HOW TO APPLY
