Expoziția CORPUS propune o reflecție asupra modului în care corpul devine instrument fundamental de percepție și orientare în lume. În lectura curatorială, lucrările lui Guðrið Poulsen sunt corelate cu fenomenologia potrivit căreia corpul este sediul memoriei, al gesturilor și al traseelor care structurează experiența. Practica artistei este expresia trăirilor sale: mersul, atingerea materialului, observarea peisajului feroez și atenția la arhitectura naturală a spațiului funcționează ca forme de cunoaștere corporală, iar materialul ceramic păstrează aceste întâlniri ca straturi sedimentate, asemenea unei arhitecturi intime. Fiecare obiect devine o expresie esențializată a contactului dintre corp și lume, iar ansamblul expoziției se constituie într-un organism coerent de forme, ritmuri și memorii în care experiența trăită și materialitatea lutului se reflectă reciproc. În același timp, CORPUS invită vizitatorul să își regăsească propria prezență corporală într-o lume marcată de ritmuri accelerate, reamintind că suntem modelați de spațiile pe care le traversăm și de gesturile pe care le repetăm. Mesajul expoziției devine astfel acela al cultivării unui „corpus personal” ca formă de ancorare în propria viață.

Guðrið Poulsen (n. 1961) esteartistă ceramistă din InsuleleFeroe, activăîn Tórshavn din 1987. Practica eireuneșteceramica, formeletridimensionaleșiproiectelebazate pe mers, fiindprezentăînexpoziții din țărilenordice, SUA și Germania. A publicat un volum de poezieîn 2023 și a fostdistinsă cu Premiul de Merit al GuvernuluiFeroez (2013) șiPremiulOnorific al Guvernului (2022). Lucrările sale se regăsescîncolecțiaGalerieiNaționale a InsulelorFeroe.

CORPUS – The Body as Memory

Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery announces the opening of the exhibition CORPUS, presenting the works of Faroese artist Guðrið Poulsen, on Monday, 18 May 2026, at 6:00 PM.

The exhibition CORPUS proposes a reflection on the ways in which the body becomes a fundamental instrument of perception and orientation in the world. In the curatorial reading, Guðrið Poulsen’s works are connected to the phenomenological view that the body is the locus of memory, gestures, and trajectories that structure experience. The artist’s practice is an expression of lived experience: walking, touching the material, observing the Faroese landscape, and attending to the natural architecture of space function as forms of embodied knowledge, while the ceramic material preserves these encounters as sedimented layers, similar to an intimate architecture. Each object becomes an essentialized expression of the contact between body and world, and the exhibition as a whole forms a coherent organism of shapes, rhythms, and memories in which lived experience and the materiality of clay reflect one another. At the same time, CORPUS invites visitors to rediscover their own bodily presence in a world marked by accelerated rhythms, reminding us that we are shaped by the spaces we traverse and the gestures we repeat. The exhibition thus conveys the message of cultivating a “personal corpus” as a way of remaining anchored in one’s own life.

The exhibition is open to the public from 18 May to 15 June 2026.

Guðrið Poulsen (b. 1961) is a ceramic artist from the Faroe Islands, active in Tórshavn since 1987. Her practice brings together ceramics, three-dimensional forms, and walking-based projects, and she has exhibited in the Nordic countries, the United States, and Germany. She published a volume of poetry in 2023 and has been awarded the Faroese Government Merit Award (2013) and the Faroese Government Honorary Award (2022). Her works are included in the collection of the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands.
