Sergiu Octav Lupse s-a nascut la 4 mai 1980 în Cluj. Este absolvent al Universitatii de Arte si Design din Cluj, sectia Foto-Video-Procesare Computerizata a Imaginii, promotia 2003. A terminat masterul la Universitatea Națională de Arte din Bucuresti. Între 1999 si 2005 a expus în 23 de expozitii de grup. A participat activ în cadrul a opt tabere de fotografie, asistenta video (teatru), documentare din România si Franta (Nantes – 2002). Numara prezența la peste 10 festivaluri de film, scenarii, vizionări video, de aici si de aiurea. Deja are palmares. Probabil unor “artiști foto” li se pare foarte la îndemână deprinderea de a “decupa” imagini din tot ceea ce ne înconjoara.
Nu este cazul lui Octav Lupșe. El a învățat cu totul altceva. Mai întâi a învățat să PRIVEASCĂ. (“Știința” asta încercam eu pe vremuri să o “fur” de la pictorul Ion Dumitriu.) Pe urmă Octav Lupse a înțeles că printr-un obiectiv foto artistul are puterea să “dinamiteze” tot ceea ce mișcă în jurul său; mai întâi “fixează”, apoi percepe detaliile; astfel, “materialul” odată dobândit, îi poate sta la dispoziție și mai are posibilitatea: să-l poetizeze, să-l toarne în prozaicul cel mai banal, să îl deformeze până la irecognoscibil, să îl plaseze în mitic, în grotesc, în minte, în cosmos, în Apex; de acolo chiar, mai are puterea să îl plaseze până și în nimicul ordinarului, dacă ne închipuim așa ceva.Virgil Rațiu (despre expozitia INTERLOP – 2005)

Sergiu Octav Lupse was born on May 4, 1980 in Cluj. He graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj, Department Photo-Video-Image Processing, class of 2003. He finished his master at the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Between 1999 and 2005 he exhibited in 23 group exhibitions. He actively participated in eight photo camps, video support (theater), documentaries from Romania and France (Nantes – 2002). Include
attendance at over 10 film festivals, scenarios, video viewings from here and elsewhere. Perhaps some “photo artists” find it very handy skill to “crop” photos of everything around us. Not Octav Lupse. He learned something else.
He first learned to WATCH. (“the kind of Science” that I once tried to “steal” the painter Ion Dumitriu.) Then Octav Lupse understood that through a
photographic lens, the artist has the power to “derail” everything that moves around him, first he “fixes” it, then he notices the details, so the “material” once acquired, can be available and can: poetize even the most trivial things, deform until unrecognizable, placing the mythical in the grotesque, in mind, in space, in Apex, it even has the power to imagine something from nothing, if we imagine that.
