Ion Tengheru aparţine acelei admirabile direcţii a artei româneşti în care logica riguroasă a ideii picturale şi sensibilitatea liniei şi a culorii se asociază într-o viziune personală. Arta lui urmăreşte să descopere ordinea lăuntrică a lucrurilor, raţiunea care orânduieşte şi dă înţeles formelor lumii vizibile.

Sunt mai mulţi ani de când am descoperit în pictura lui Ion Tengheru dovezile convingătoare ale unei consecvente năzuinţe de a da imaginii rigoarea clară a unei arhitecturi bine gândite, reţionale. În construcţia aceasta de forme geometrice solid clădite, am desluşit – însă – şi vibraţia calmă şi sinceră a unui temperament poetic, rostindu-se într-o armonioasă cromatică.
De atunci, ori de câte ori m-am întâlnit din nou cu arta lui, am putut să observ treptata împlinire a acestei sinteze între viziunea constructivă şi vibraţia calmă a sentimentului. Ion Tengheru e un artist înzestrat cu o certă vocaţie de monumentalist. Fapt pe deplin demonstrat de picturile lui mai recente, în care linia devine mai flexibilă, forma însăşi dobândeşte o unduire muzicală. Pictor narativ prin excelenţă, Tengheru nu reduce imaginea picturală, la o simplă povestire ci – în spiritul tradiţiei româneşti a străvechii arte murale – îi caută înţelesurile alegorice, ce cuprind mai amplu realitatea.

I believe that I. Tengheru belongs to that excellent trend of the Romanian art in which the rigorous judgment of the pictorial idea and the sensitivity of the line and colour are mixed in a personal vision. His art tends to find out the inner order of things, the reason which sets in order and gives a meaning to the forms of the visible world.

There have been years since I discovered in Ion Tengheru’s painting convincing evidence of a consistent wish to provide image with that clear rigour of a thoughtful rational architecture. I could also distinguish, in that structure of firm built geometrical forms, the sincere and calm vibe of a poetical temperament, conveyed through a harmonious chromatics.
Ever since I have met again his art again, I could notice the step by step fulfilment of this synthesis between the constructive vision and the calm vibe of the feeling. Ion Tengheru is an artist who is gifted with a definite calling of a monumentalist. And this fact is fully proved by his recent paintings, in which the line has become more flexible, shape itself has been endowed with a musical undulation.
